Frequently Asked Questions
How much money will I get?
You’ll typically get half of the selling price. Unsold items are marked down over time. More than half of our inventory sells at the starting price!
When will I get my money?
Your check will be available for pick up on the 7th of the month following a sale. You can track your sales online anytime!
What home furnishings can I sell?
We consign gently used home furnishings. This includes sofas, loveseats, sleepers, daybeds, bedroom furniture, media centers, dining room and kitchen furniture, home office furniture, outdoor furniture, room dividers, area rugs, lamps (with bulbs), clocks (with batteries), silk plants, mirrors, collectibles, crystal, wall décor and prints in current styles and colors.
What other items can I sell?
We sell pretty much anything, but we do require the items to have a final value of at least $20 and a $40 starting value. Power tools, hand tools, and lawn and garden equipment. We have a huge traffic count going by our store daily, so we attract all sorts of buyers. We typically do not consign clothes, used bedding, bed pillows or linens.
Consignment Guidelines
Our biggest concern is that everything we consign is CLEAN, Working and GENTLY USED!
The age, style and condition will determine the value.
All appliances, Tools, motorized equipment must be in working order. If you are not sure we can sell an item, send us a picture and/or ask before you bring it in.
Upholstered Furniture
- Free of rips, significant stains, tears or other visible damage
- Free from discoloration from sunlight or inconsistency of fabric
- Free of pet hair or odor
- Smoke free / Odor free
- Cushions should have little to no indication of sagging or lack of shape.
- Stable construction
- Must be thoroughly vacuumed.
- We do NOT have age restrictions, but pieces older than 7 years will be priced to sell! Most consignment stores do not consign upholstered goods more than 5 years old!
Case Goods (Tables, Bookcases, Bedroom furniture, etc...)
- Finish and paint should be consistent and free of watermarks and discoloration. No (or only minor) scratches, chips or other noticeable flaws.
- No broken or missing hardware pieces. Drawers and doors must operate properly. Legs and frame must be sturdy
- Dust and cobweb free.
Tools
- Must be in working order with charged batteries so customers can see it function.
- Free of dirt and grease so we don’t get customers or other consigners dirty
- We can sell tools with repaired cords, but they don’t bring as much money
If you have unusual pieces, please send an email asking if we will consider consigning it. It is the consignor’s responsibility to assemble multiple piece furniture such as bunk beds on our showroom floor. All items must have a value of at least $20 as a final price.
If your furniture is CLEAN and GENTLY USED, just bring it in during consignment hours. (It is always a good idea to give us a heads up you are coming.) We will look it over and let you know if we will consign it. We can NOT help you carry the furniture into the store. Our staff is busy sanitizing, pricing, tagging and moving furniture to the sales floor. We do not have enough staff to move consignments into the warehouse. It IS the consignor’s responsibility!!! If we need to move, assemble or work on your inventory we must charge $40/hr.
Since furniture is heavy, feel free to email or drop off (non–returnable) photos for preapproval. E–mail photos and age/brand information: hartcityinfo@gmail.com. Please allow 48 hours response time (not counting weekends). Make certain your email has been sent! LOOK IN YOUR ‘SENT‘ MAILBOX AFTER YOU CLICK SEND! SOME EMAIL SETTINGS DO NOT ALLOW LARGE FILES TO BE SENT! Please reduce the picture file size before sending. If you haven’t heard back from us in 3 days (not counting weekends), please send another email or call the consignment manager!
Although we try to provide a secure environment for your merchandise, the items belong to you until the consignment period expires or the item is sold. You must provide any desired insurance coverage for fire, theft, or damage. Contact your homeowner’s insurance provider if you have any questions regarding coverage.
